About IMACS
Philosophy
At the very heart of IMACS lies an extraordinary curriculum. Put together by a consortium of mathematicians, computer scientists, engineers and educators, the IMACS curriculum is designed to take young minds and extend them as far as their capabilities allow. The curriculum has taken many years to perfect, and continues to evolve as new technologies are incorporated.
The philosophy underpinning each of the IMACS curriculum areas is that the student's progress should be based on genuine understanding of the concepts, and not on rote memorization. Each IMACS course proceeds forward in steps that are easy to understand, with each step presented in a way that is innovative, interesting, challenging, and fun. Important concepts and skills are revisited repeatedly from various points of view, allowing students to master each skill as they are able. Mindless memorization is avoided, since the goal is always the development of a genuine understanding, love of the subject matter, and an ability to formulate and express coherent, logical arguments.
